Verdant Fabrics

Dawn Verdant has always loved sewing but it came into its own during Covid. Her husband bought her a selection of fat quarters Christmas 2019 in which there was a pattern on how to make a patchwork tote bag. She made that bag and advertised it on Instagram. Within a few days it was sold. From there on in she had the bug of making various items, with an emphasis on bags, and so the craft fayres began. Dawn sells an assortment of bags of which include backpacks, grab bags, shoulder bags, oilcloth tote bags, drawstring bags and shopping bags. These are made to suit both adult and children. Teaming the patterned fabric up with lining fabric is very much part of the enjoyment she gets from her makes. The assortment of colours, patterns and contrasts she finds really exciting. However, although sewing bags are her main craft, another of her best sellers are children’s star wands. These are hand sewn felt glitter stars with lots of ribbons – ideal for those ‘fairy magical’ days. Seasonal wands come out too, near Christmas, which are ideal stocking fillers. Customers are welcome to pick up any of the items she has on my stall. Her ethos is that people need to feel, see and have a good look at what they’re buying which, in turn, starts a conversation on how the product was made, materials used and what the item has to offer.
