John & May Willavoys
Decoupage Cards
May has been making cards since 2006.
This started out as a hobby to fill in the
time betweens shifts on her
employment in the social care field.
When she retired she had her own craft
studio built and she joined various craft
guilds including Craft in Action, where
she has been a member since 2010 and
is seen regularly at their fairs. She is
joined by her husband, John, who started helping her on his retirement from the retail industry.
May mainly makes decoupage cards, which is where the picture is built up in layers, but she
also makes 3D articles such as baby cribs, wedding cakes and boxes and her work has been
seen on a television crafting channel, where she has designed cards for the demonstrations
shown.
‘Knitting by Nanna May’, is also skill of crafter May who has branched out into knitting chiefly
baby clothing such as matinee coats, cardigans, bonnets, bootees and mittens, along with baby
blankets. However, she has been known to produce more adult items from time to time.
May is willing to take commissions from
both her fields of expertise and will be
happy to discuss requests and patterns.
When Cheltenham and Tewkesbury were
flooded, May was working as a palliative
carer in the community and it was
thanks to the RNLI and their support that
meant she was able to get to her
patients therefore, all profits from her
crafting are donated to the Royal
National Lifeboat Institution where the
money is spent on buying uniforms.
